DECLARATION OF BCIN STATUS - HISTORIC COMPLEX OF LLÍVIA (CERDANYA)
The Llívia Town Council commissioned us to define the boundaries of the historic center of Llívia as a Cultural Asset of National Interest, in the category of Historic Ensemble.
The aim of this work is to obtain an updated documentary basis to process the delimitation of the Historic Site and its protective surroundings, in accordance with the provisions of Law 9/1993, of September 30, on Catalan Cultural Heritage.
The historic center of Llívia was declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) – Historic Site, with registration number 149-CH, under the Decree of 27/06/1968, and also declared at the national level as a Monumental and Artistic Site according to the Spanish Official Gazette (BOE) of July 30, 1968.
However, the area of the Historic Site and its protective surroundings had not yet been formally delimited. For this reason, the aim of this dossier is to identify the specific boundaries of the site and to gather the various historical, artistic, and cultural values that justify the declaration and the corresponding protection.
The monument’s significance lies in its historical, architectural, and artistic values, which make it worthy of appropriate protection. Given the historical characteristics of this site, the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage of the Department of Culture of the Government of Catalonia decided to undertake the necessary technical work to define its delimitation as a Cultural Asset of National Interest under the category of Historic Site.
The justification for carrying out this delimitation lies in the need to clearly define an area where compositional and formal criteria can be applied in harmony with the local building tradition, ensuring that changes in residential typologies do not compromise the distinctive character of the area.
