DIAGNOSIS OF THE ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE OF THE BISHOPRIC OF GIRONA

Following an open competition, the Department of Culture of the Generalitat commissioned Fortià
Arquitectos last September to carry out the Diagnostic Study of the Architectural Heritage of the Diocese of Girona, divided into three sections: the Garrotxa and Ripollès regions, the Gironès and Pla de l'Estany regions, and finally the Selva and Alt Maresme regions.

 A total of approximately 240 buildings will be visited, most of them churches, monasteries, castles, and convents. All of these monuments are listed as Cultural Assets of National Interest (BCIN) or Cultural Assets of Local Interest (BCIL). The work being carried out encompasses four main aspects: the building envelope, including facades and roofs; the load-bearing structure, understood as the set of walls and ceilings; the interior, comprised of flooring and wall coverings; and finally, the building systems present in each of the studied elements.

The ultimate goal of the work is to create a comprehensive assessment of the buildings' actual structural condition and to identify any existing problems. The final report for each monument classifies the building into four main categories: Good Condition, Building with Issues, Poor Condition, and Serious or Very Poor Condition. Eighty visits were made to buildings in the Gironès and Pla de l'Estany regions during September and October. Among the prominent monuments visited for assessment were the Church of Sant Pere de Galligants, the Monastery of Sant Esteve de Banyoles, and the Church of Sant Feliu de Girona.

Visits to the churches of La Garrotxa and Ripollès are now beginning, starting with the towns of Camprodon, Olot, and Vall de Bianya.
