INTERVENTION AT MAS VILANERA IN L'ESCALA (ALT EMPORDÀ)

The Town Council of L’Escala commissioned us to carry out a partial intervention project at Mas Vilanera. This historic building dates back to the 16th century and has a complex structure that has grown and evolved over time. It is foreseen that, in the f

The purpose of this project was to carry out structural consolidation works and roof restoration of two former agricultural buildings associated with Mas Vilanera in L’Escala, with the aim of transforming them into multipurpose, public, and usable spaces.

Structural pathologies and degradation were detected, and this project specifies the intervention necessary to carry out consolidation and conservation works to address the issues threatening the integrity of the structures and prepare them for subsequent phases of intervention. In 2018, the L’Escala Town Council acquired 32 hectares of land from the Vilanera estate, stretching from the industrial area near the Bellcaire road on one side to the Albons road near the Camp dels Pilars on the other. This acquisition was made to protect the natural, cultural/archaeological, and agricultural landscape of the area.

The acquisition of the Mas Vilanera building itself was not completed until 2022. Located centrally within the acquired estates, the Mas is expected to become a future interpretation center for the natural and socioeconomic environment, linked to the natural parks of Aiguamolls de l’Empordà and Montgrí, Illes Medes and Baix Ter, framed within the Biosphere Reserve candidacy of the Costa Brava led by the Girona Provincial Council.
