A small gem of traditional Pyrenean architecture. This is the Fàbrica dera Lan in Vielha, in the heart of the Aran Valley a mountain building that has come into our hands for a consolidation and restoration intervention.
Located on the banks of the Nere River, this factory once harnessed the power of the water to drive wool looms brought from France, beneath a timber roof and floors, enclosed by robust stone walls. Today, the space has left behind its productive role to become a socio-cultural and educational facility managed by the Aran Museum. The current challenge is to bring value to this unique building, a witness to the valley’s early steps toward industrial modernity.
The Fàbrica dera Lan is much more than a museum: it is a key piece in understanding the historical and social evolution of the Aran Valley. This space connects visitors with a decisive moment of transformation, engaging them in a little-known but essential story.
It is a bridge to the past and a tribute to the resilient, determined spirit of a Pyrenean community that has never stopped looking forward.
