MUSEALIZATION OF THE MUJAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE
The Calella City Council (Maresme) proposes a roadmap work on future actions at a site, still in the excavation process.
At Fortià Arquitectes we have made a proposal for Intervention at the Mujal Site in Calella de la Costa. The City Council has commissioned us with a Plan to intervene and enhance these Roman-era baths. The remains correspond to a villa dedicated to the production of wine and amphorae.
During the construction of a supermarket, the remains were detected and from there a management scenario was proposed in which the City Council is the owner of the villa's land and the company owns the domain and use of the above-ground floors.
The Calella City Council commissioned us to draw up a Roadmap to study the final destination as well as the actions necessary for the public use of this important cultural facility: Itineraries inside the site, signage, storage volumes, space for visitors...
We have worked on this project under the guidelines of the company Quaderna and its director Jordi Rodó Rodà. From Fortià Arquitectes we have made some visits to the site and finally we have proposed possible scenarios for action and revitalization of this enclave, which in the future can very well complement the tourist and commercial vocation of this outstanding city of Maresme.
In August 2024 we presented to the Calella City Council the heritage and museum proposal for the Roman archaeological site of Mujal. The drafting team included Jordi Rodó, director of Quaderna, and Josep Maria Fortià and Raimon Bustos, architects.
The proposal aims to have a sober and minimalist character, providing those simple elements that ensure a good visualization of the archaeological structures. We work with clear and differentiated images, proposing a distinction between the upper level of the contemporary city and the subsoil level of the Roman foundation as two separate worlds, with their own materials and characteristics.
