REHABILITATION OF THE FORMER POWER PLANTOF THE CARDONA MINES (BAGES)

These are improvement actions for the interpretive spaces at the site of the former Nieves Mine, within the Cultural Park of the Salt Mountain of Cardona.

  • Commenced in:
    • 2020
  • Promoter:
    • Bages County Council
  • Budget:
    • 150.000

A project was proposed to create a new product that the Foundation could offer, with the aim of expanding the current offerings and progressively improving certain buildings to adapt their use to the current needs of the Cultural Park of the Salt Mountain. The use of other buildings in the complex, such as the Alberto Shaft and the Power Station, was also enhanced, turning them into central hubs for communicating the Park’s geological and mining past.

The site where the two buildings targeted for intervention are located is the former Nieves Mine complex, within the Cultural Park of the Salt Mountain of Cardona. These buildings are part of the industrial structures constructed during the mine’s operational period and, now that mining activity has been closed since 1990, they are part of the facilities that make up the Cultural Facility of the Salt Mountain of Cardona.

As industrial buildings from a mining operation, they are large in scale and still preserve some of the machinery used during the mine’s active period.
