SPECIAL PLAN FOR THE CAN TARGA COMPLEX AND THE SEASIDE HOUSES IN MAS NOU
We drafted the Special Plan document to regulate interventions in terms of composition, aesthetics, and materials, in order to ensure the protection and improvement of the urban frontage along Camil Fabra Street in El Masnou.
The aim of this Urban Planning and Zoning Plan was to define the volumetric parameters and the aspects related to composition, materials, colors, and finishes of the entire ensemble, with the goal of allowing a previously heterogeneous frontage to develop its own internal dialogue among its elements, while at the same time consolidating a unified and coherent image, and ensuring maximum integration with its immediate surroundings.
The ensemble was composed of eight terraced houses, flanked by taller buildings that shaped the urban frontage. They are located in the southwest of El Masnou’s urban core, on the western bank of the Alella stream. The terraced houses in the central section, built between 1844 and 1852, are two stories high (ground floor and upper floor) and preserve the original morphology of traditional houses, though with some later modifications.
The multi-family apartment blocks at both ends were built between 1968 and 1969 and consist of a ground floor and five upper floors. At the eastern end of the ensemble stands the masia of Can Targa, a square-plan building with a gabled roof and a south-facing main façade, with the ridge line perpendicular to the façade. It has a height of ground floor and one upper floor. The Can Targa masia is listed among the protected heritage elements of El Masnou’s General Urban Development Plan, with a protection level A (integral). This entire urban ensemble, with its diverse typologies, constitutes the maritime frontage of the Can Targa neighborhood, on Camil Fabra Street.
