COMPETITION FOR THE GIRONA AIRPORT CONTROL TOWER
In 2011, AENA called the competition for the new control tower of Girona-Costa Brava airport.
AENA, the state agency that manages airports, launched the tender in 2011 for the new control tower at Girona-Costa Brava Airport.
Together with the Italian team SEAS, led by engineer Michele Navach, we developed a proposal for intervention in the airport terminal that introduces a new image for the terminal building as well as a new profile for the tower element.
The new terminal building features clean and transparent volumes, highlighted by a bold design gesture dominated by metallic bands, which also form the visual basis of the control tower’s image.
Within the multidisciplinary team involved, issues such as environmental impact, territorial integration, and infrastructure and logistics aspects arising from this type of development were also addressed.
