INTERIOR RENOVATION OF A DWELLING IN THE LES PEDRERES NEIGHBORHOOD IN GIRONA

The building to be renovated is located in the Pedreres-Fora Muralla neighborhood, in the city of Girona, between the city wall gardens and the Jaume Vicens Vives High School. The ground floor residence was used by the owners as their main home, while the first-floor apartment had been purchased earlier with the intention of expanding their living space. The proposed intervention involved connecting the two dwellings via an interior staircase to create a duplex unit.

The intervention did not involve any alterations to the exterior of the building or its surroundings; all work was confined to the interior of the dwelling, including the construction of a new staircase and the internal reconfiguration of the layout.

First, the building's structure and load-bearing conditions were assessed. Part of the slab was demolished to make space for a new private staircase linking the two floors. Some internal partitions were also removed, and the kitchen was dismantled. New interior partitions were then built to define new spaces, including a walk-in closet and a distribution area, designed for family use. Finally, the installations and finishes were updated and unified to make the dwelling suitable for occupation.
