DIAGNOSIS AND MASTER PLAN OF THE WALLS OF SANT MARTÍ D'EMPÚRIES

Visit to Sant Martí d'Empúries by Fortià Arquitectes with the Councilor for Heritage of L'Escala City Council.

In mid-May we received a proposal from L'Escala City Council to make a historical and constructive diagnosis of the walled enclosure of Sant Martí d'Empúries. This document will be used to plan the different phases of intervention and consolidation in the entire wall.

The Wall of Sant Martí d’Empúries in its different sections dates from the 10th - 11th, 13th - 14th and 15th centuries.

The Walls are located around the old town of Sant Martí d'Empúries, northwest of the town of L'Escala. Originally, the enclosure was completely walled and surrounded the entire town. Several sectors of this structure are currently preserved. The best-preserved sectors are the west and north sides; in the others there are vestiges. The western canvas is about 50 meters long, with a flattened part and the crown with battlements.
